Men of ignorance identify or compares the self with external attributes such as their children, house and wealth . Is this the right method ?
And for these people when any of these are injured or lost , they may think that they themselves are injured or lost. Those who are thorough materialists consider the body to be self and cherish the erroneous notion that self is endowed with characteristics as youth, old age, birth and death.
Some consider the sense organs as the self. All this are linked to the dvaida or dualistic approach.
When looked through the non dualism or advaida it may seem as one and only one, to be very simple “Iam that”. Easy to say hard understand. Here that refers to God or the Supreme. Here comes the greatest truth “Aham Brahmasmi” Iam God. The supreme Brahman is the one which cannot be comprehended by speech, only accessible with the eye of pure illumination, that which is never grasped by the sense organs, that which is indestructible, free from duality, that beyond which there is nothing, Attaining this state can be through various paths like Yoga,Devotion with ultimate focus and austerity.
